Shows > The Matthew Rimmer Show

Thursday 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Matthew Rimmer hosts an eclectic mix of music with Rants and Raves, Soap Round-Up, Song You've Never Heard Before and Movie Music.

Matthew hosts the 12.00 midday to 1.00 p.m. slot on Thursdays on a weekly basis. His name is Matthew Rimmer and therefore his show is named aptly The Matthew Rimmer Show.

Matthew's show features a diverse range of music from a number of different genres, (although there is often an indie/alternative/Britpop slant). The music dates from the 1920s through to this week's charts in 2008 and even beyond when he plays tracks yet to be released that have been sent to Rare FM on promo CDs.

He crams in as much music as possible around his random waffling and his four regular segments Song You've Never Heard Before, (often shamelessly plugging his friends' band 'Heartstring', when they have new material), Soap Round-Up, Rants and Raves and Movie Music. He also has a number of recurring segments, such as Promo CD of the Week, Blast From The Past and I've Got It Covered.

The talky bits make up the podcast of his show.

Ah, how to end? Hmm. He'd make a good Blue Peter presenter.

Vital Statistics:

First Album: Oasis - Be Here Now (1997, given as a present in 1998)
First Single: Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You (1991)
(Yes children, in the days of vinyl, oh the shame, but I was only 4 and I liked the Robin Hood bits in the video - it's since gone missing.)
Likes: TV in abundance, DVDs, films, music, reading, computers, sci-fi
Dislikes: I can moan about pretty much anything

The Matthew Rimmer Show - Show 3.15 – Ashes to Ashes: 1981 Special

| | Comments (0)

"My name is Matthew Rimmer. I had an accident and I woke up in 1981. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home."

Join me in 1981, a year of Duran Duran, Margaret Thatcher, Charles and Diana, Ken and Diedre and Bucks Fizz...

Show 3.15, first broadcast live on Thursday 7th February 2008, includes 1981 Soap Round-up, 1981 Entertainment News, Rants and Raves and Soap Round-Up.

Back in 2008...

Down the road some time the same day, it seems Ian Smith - who plays Harold Bishop on Neighbours - had accosted Trafalgar Square with a huge brass band to play the Neighbours Theme Tune to promote Neighbours moving from BBC One to Five on Monday 11th February 2008. I found this on YouTube (video by paperbackwriter72):

Or for a clearer view go here (video by Raphael Clairefond of Digital Spy).

To see the Neighbours cast get over-excited about their move to Five watch this trailer:

And to hear Rare FM's interview with Karl Kennedy actor Alan Fletcher from October 2006 conducted by Adam Freedman, Natalie Dokarry and myself go here.

Show 3.14 of The Matthew Rimmer Show, (my 14th show of the academic year and 54th show overall), first broadcast live on Thursday 31st January 2008, includes Rants and Raves, Soap Round-Up, Entertainment News and a song! Heartstring have kindly given me permission to include the demo version of Breaking Away, a track from their forthcoming album Hybrid Calling, in my podcast. The song can be found roughly half-way through the podcast. The podcast is twice as long as normal because I covered for the show after mine.
