Tom Fuller Band - Lollipop Guild
This promo came with two lovely lollipops, and I would like to be able to say that at Rare we can’t be bribed, but it seems it may have worked.
This single, from the forthcoming album ‘Abstract Man’ is due to be released in March alongside a UK tour. Tom and his band have already been referred to as an American Oasis, which I can hear to some extent. Lollipop Guild, in the most part, is a very good pop-rock song, with choruses in the right place, and nicely positioned backing vocals. There are however a good few aspects of this song which do nothing but irritate. Firstly Tom Fuller’s vocals are clearly overly strained, possibly in a superficial attempt to sound rockier. Then there is that incessant lead guitar which seems to whine on throughout the song, be it the verses or chorus, or bridge for that matter.
Lollipop Guild is nothing more than a good pop song, and Tom Fuller doesn’t want it to be. It sits nicely somewhere between McFly and Oasis and is accessible to the masses as well as the disparaging student reviewer who has too much work, and too little alcohol. This reviewer wishes Tom Fuller Band the best of luck on the Hype trail in the UK, and hopes they keep on sending out free lollipops!
