Red Light Company – Arts & Crafts
Arts & Crafts, the 4th single by Red Light Company is being released in conjunction with their forthcoming album, due to be released in February. Having heard comparisons to the likes of Editors and The Arcade Fire I had high hopes, only for them to later be shattered. They have been supporting several large acts in recent months and are due to start their own headline tour this month. It’s another DIY, indie by numbers song which is merely an amalgamation of its counterparts. Each influence can be picked out one by one from the song (namely U2 and Bloc Party), leaving it as nothing but a shell of a song. This taken into account, the song is actually quite catchy at times, and I can see it being played in indie bars on a regular basis and might be good fun live. The song seems to develop and build throughout, with simple verses, catchy and lively choruses and pretty decent vocals. It’s certainly not inspiring or original, but it is a good pop song and good for a dance. Hopefully the forthcoming album will provide songs of greater depth and hopefully some more originality from a band that can clearly write decent pop songs
