Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone
So I’ve never been much of a fan of Sheffield’s biggest export since steel, and can hear a slight scream from my inner music snob when I say this, but I actually really like this track. Lead singer Alex Turner takes us on a melancholy pub crawl with a haunting psychedelic tone that’s a million miles away from the garbled guitar noise that enchanted the ears of the Myspace millions back in 2005. The song is taken from their current album Humbug which was produced by the genius Josh Homme and called "the best album of the year" by Q Magazine. They’ve grown their hair a bit, got some pointy boots and have created a highly stylized, '60s influenced sound that finally seems to fit in with Turner’s undeniable lyrical talent.
Released 16th November 2009 on Domino Records
