Shrek 2

If you absolutely loved Shrek, then you will love Shrek 2. This time it has managed to pull in even more big names, building on the success of the first film. It features Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Jennifer Saunders as the (slightly evil) Fairy Godmother, Rupert Everett as Prince Charming, John Cleese as the King, Julie Andrews as the Queen and Antonio Banderas as, my favourite character, Puss in Boots.

The film follows Shrek, Fiona and Donkey on a journey to Far Far Away to meet Fiona's parents. However, her parents, and especially her father do not take too kindly to Fiona being an ogre and being married to one. Neither does the Fairy Godmother, who's son, Prince Charming, was betrothed to Princess Fiona. Between the Fairy Godmother and the King, a plan is hatched to kill Shrek, and Puss in Boots is hired as the hit man (or should I say hit cat). Shrek, however, takes a shine to Puss in Boots, and adopts him as his pet. So Shrek, Puss and Donkey set off to find a Happily After for Shrek and Fiona, which results in a good to watch story as it all unravels. Like all fairy stories, Shrek has a very pleasant and happy ending. What ever you do when you watch this, DO NOT turn off the DVD as soon as the credits come up, there is a tiny bit more to the film to come half way through them!

I was pleased with the special features on this DVD. There is a section about the music of Shrek, who did it, what they did with it. There is also a section devoted to Puss in Boots, so I suppose I would like that as I am biased. They have also done a different ending, where Simon Cowell comes on and they do a pop idol with all the characters.

You can also buy as well as the basic copy of the DVD, one with even more special features, or the double box set of both Shrek films.

My only criticism of this DVD is that it makes you watch trailers before getting to the main menu, it refuses to skip them, which I find highly irritating! Otherwise, this is a fantastic buy!
