A Lot Like Love

Dir: Nigel Cole
Starring: Ashton Kutcher, Amanda Peet
I have read a couple of harsh reviews on this film, and yes I can see their point a bit, it is another romcom where you know that they will eventually get together, but that is the essential ingredient of any romcom surely. This film left me feeling buoyant after seeing it, with enough twists and turns to keep me wondering when the eventual would actually happen and how.
It kicks off with Emily and Oliver meeting each other after the break up of Emilys relationship at the airport. There is an instant attraction between the two and they soon find each other participating in the mile high club, although Emily is a mixed up character when it comes to love and does not seem sure about where she wants to take this encounter with Oliver, so she uses him more as a rebound thing as her various relationships disintegrate over the years. Oliver is initially very struck with Emily, but soon cools off as he moves on. Only when Emily and Oliver finally grow up a bit and realise what they want does love eventually blossom between the twosome.
Ok, so its not original in its design and there have been loads of romcoms before it and there will be many more to come, but as long as there is a market for it then what is the harm in that? It is just meeting public demand for a cheerful and cuddly films which A Lot Like Love manages to pull off very effectively. Thumbs up to Ashton Kutcher who portrays the development of Oliver in an endearing way and praise for Amanda Peet who manages to portray what a lot of the female species can sometimes be, indecisive and sometimes too stupid to see what is right in front of their eyes! (Or that may just be me, I am a bit of a ditzy blonde after all!). As for all those critics out there, go pick on some other romcom as this one is good entertainment for a lazy night out and manages to actually extract a few genuine laughs along the way making the trip to the inevitable all the more enjoyable to watch.Latest Reviews
