New Adventures - Accidents
This was a four track EP, so here’s a little summary of each one.
'Never Get Caught' is a bland piano ballad without the vocal ability to back it up - the singer's voice is too weak. The repetitive piano part drones on through out whilst the frail strings and far too quiet guitar parts fail to add any sense of either drama or beauty to the piece. I can't say I hate it, but I'd be happier never getting caught up listening to it again.
'No Explanations' is OK. That's all I can say. It's OK like Keane are OK - inoffensive, inevocative, mild in every way.
'Everybody Needs a Brother' is neither "bombastic" nor "sky-tearing" [as claimed in the promo notes - ed.]. It tears the singer's voice a bit, but not the sky. Follows the same old formula as 'No Explanations' (soft bit, loud bit, soft bit, etc.) in the exact same way (thrash your guitars and turn up the overdrive).
'Former Glories' is a blend of inane lyrics ('if buildings can scrape the sky/then honey o why can't I?' is neither big nor clever) and trashy ballad piano. Throw in that overdriven guitar bit again, and you have another infertile song.
Overall it is like a lame and limping Keane EP. When even a Keane EP with bionic legs is dull, you can see how this band will pale into obscurity.
5/10 Listen to New Adventures on their Myspace Page.
