Summer is upon us once more - or at least the British equivalent of it. Note that the weather is glorious during exam season and then it pours as soon as exams end...Anyway, here at UCL we still have two weeks left of term and what a busy two weeks they will be. First up we have Rare FM's club night I Like It Rare! tonight - see here for more details.
Wednesday 28th May sees representatives of Rare FM attending the glittering UCL Union Social Colours Ball, (invitation only event).
Rare FM will also be out in force at the UCLU Summer Arts Festival '08 on Tuesday 3rd June 2008, DJing between acts. Head down to UCL's Main Quad between 1.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. to see UCL's arty clubs and societies showcasing their wares. More details here. Oh yes, and it's free...
On top of all of this, DJs will be doing their shows here on www.rarefm.co.uk over the next two weeks. Final year students will be going out in style as they do their final ever shows.
From Saturday 7th June, the day after term ends, we will be switching to our Summer Schedule. Those DJs left in London over the summer will be bringing you extended shows at alternative times. Look out for further details closer to the time.

The AGM is upon us once more. Open to all Rare FM members, (please send your apologies if you cannot attend, especially as our FM period will be discussed at this meeting - click here for contact details), this is your chance to stand and be elected, or vote on who is elected, for next academic year's committee.
If you are interested in standing for any of the committee positions, they are as follows:...
President/Station Manager
Treasurer
Head of Music
Head of Programming
Chief Engineer
Website Manager
Events Officer
Marketing Team
You may stand for more than one position. Voting will take place in the order shown above and if you are not elected for one position, you may stand for another later in the meeting. For example, you may wish to stand for Head of Music, fail to become elected and then stand for Website Manager. However, think carefully about which position(s) you are best suited for.
At the meeting, you will be expected to give a two minute speech to explain why you think you should be elected. You will then be expected to answers any questions from the members present.
Detailed descriptions of the positions, (taken from the society constitution), are shown below:
The President and Station Manager
Shall represent the society and shall be responsible for making sure that the society is run according its constitution, the UCL Union Club and Society regulations, Good Practice Guidelines, and Standing Orders of UCL Union. It is the responsibility of the President to call General Meetings of the society, and organise proper elections for the following year's committee, in accordance with Club and Society Regulations. Shall be the primary point of communication between the Union and the society members. It is therefore required that s/he attends the relevant Union Committees. Is the figurehead and first point of contact to all outside parties.
The Treasurer
Shall carry out the day to day financial duties of the society, and is responsible to the union for society finances to the membership. Shall keep current accurate financial information. The Treasurer is responsible for all financial transactions of the society ensuring that these are made through the Union Finance Department; only the Treasurer, or in his/her absence the President, may authorise withdrawals or expenditure from the society accounts. Shall maintain a society account book. Manages a sales team responsible for securing sponsorship and advertising revenue.
Head of Music
Directs overall Rare FM music policy. Responsible for creating playlists and submitting a chart to the Student Radio Association. Liaises with record companies, collecting and organising music and arranging gigs and interviews with bands/artists. Runs a weekly music meeting open to all members.
Head of Programming
Oversees all programming strategies, including scheduling, content and presentation. Responsible for the training of DJs.
Chief Engineer
Responsible for the technical running of Rare FM, including studio equipment, computers and transmission equipment. Oversees technical development and advises on the purchase of new equipment.
Website Manager
Responsible for the overall management of the Rare FM website, ensuring that it has a good design and is kept up to date. Ensures that all content is well-edited and manages the submission of content by other Officers and DJs.
Events Officer
Organises regular Rare FM events, including `I like it Rare' brand club nights. Organises promotion for these events...
Becoming a member of the Rare FM committee is very rewarding, but also very time-consuming. Please bear this in mind if you are running.

As of tomorrow, Thursday 17th January 2008, Rare FM will be broadcasting from its brand new studio in the UCL Union. We will truly be bringing you music from the heart of UCL! [PICTURES TO COME...]
Our old studio will now be used for storage and for recording sessions.
So, from now on you'll be able to see Rare FM DJs at work behind the Reception desk in the UCL Union!
Look out for some new studio launch events and a shiny revamped schedule!
Happy New Year, one and all! Rare FM is back with a full schedule following our usual limited output over Christmas with most DJs having gone into hibenation.
